A Sacred Space
There is a spot in my garden that contains magic. Under the Willow Tree in the long grass, a sacred space. A place that, when you draw back the long, green tendrils of the tree, there opens up a new realm.
In Summer her full branches droop down to the floor, almost like she is wearing a beautiful dress. She sways in the breeze teasing me with glimpses of what lies underneath. In the winter her bare branches open the space up to the elements, as if she is cleansing herself ready for the Spring. And although she appears deathly, her circle of protection remains within her branches.
It is here that I intend to create a corner for me, for my prayer, ritual, ceremony and magic. A place of peace. It’s a little rugged with the odd toy, bucket, skipping rope and gnome but the energy is potent here. It’s my portal is to the unknown.
It feels safe here. I feel cocooned. I am invisible. I am part of her. I am part of the Great Mother, Gaia, Earth. For it is with her, that I am more me.
There will be an alter to honour the elements, earth, air, fire and water stood upon a gnarly tree stump. A goddess. A spiral. A large crystal. Sticks, stones and shells collected from adventures at home and afar. Treasures from my children. An intimate and cosy space no matter what the weather. My sanctuary.
Finding a sacred space, whether at home, outdoors or somewhere different each time is truly magical. I have made Sacred Spaces all around my home without even knowing it. I have an alter in my kitchen, some flowers from the garden, a few purposely placed crystal and a candle. I have one in my hallway on a chest of drawers, this is a handful of pebbles collected at beaches and riversides, but I have placed it in a circle – a stone circle. I also have one in the bedroom. Crystals and various essential oils by my bed and sometimes a vase of herbs and flowers. What really matters is the intent with which you place the items. It might only be a vase of wild flowers on the kitchen table but they were placed their to make you smile, to fill your days with joy and to connect you to the outdoors, then it is a sacred space.
So, create a sacred space just for you, and every time you walk pass it or sit with it, you remember. You remember to breathe. You remember to feel the Earth beneath you. You remember your truth.
